10,000 Things is a love song to the lands where three major religions were born and where deep-seated passions continue to rule. It records the author’s transformation from a woman–broken and vulnerable–to one reborn into strength. From the ashes of the old, she cobbled together a new life in a little town on the Arabian Gulf; there, she learned to live and work and love once more in the crucible of patriarchs and messiahs where columns of swirling sand and biting heat rule. Using the everyday of desert life, 10,000 Things provides a glimpse into the exotic through the eyes of an American woman who sees it all for the first time.
A storyteller at heart, Jaclyn Maria Fowler comes from a long line of storytellers and wanderers. She, too, travels to write and writes to travel. To pay for her obsession, she works as the Department Chair of English at American Public University System. She is the author of Today’s Rain, Tomorrow’s Whiskey, Jack The Almost True Story of the Molly Magutres, and It is Myself that I Remake. Fowler is a graduate of and current faculty member at the MFA program at Wilkes University.
