In Sholly Knot the author creates a contemporary yet out of chronology saga of her own; echoing glimpses of kitchen sink drama, immature fantasies merging with attention-seeking female’s obsessions and human weakness, are presented in her story in a series of ponderings about her own actions and choices. The main character here speaks to herself and thinks aloud and the reader witnesses her torments, desires, mental aberrations and amidst fragments and flashbacks of a twisted life permeated by fears, sense of guilt for feeling of inadequacy and illusions we are drawn into a seemingly banal dimension but never obvious and yet deeply and gradually more and more unsettling. Her tales of ordinary madness, human depravation and her wanderings between small Australian towns and bigger cities are wrapped and underpinned in mystery and her visceral journey into hidden truths holds a finale that pays off the reader with a totally unpredictable twist!
