In this extraordinary biography of the author, we witness his endless ill-considered adventures around the world, that explore a frantic need for constant travels, long distance moves, and experiences in many countries like the UK, Isle of Man, India, Greece, Kenya, South Africa, and Australia. He describes many journeys and travels of many different sorts around the planet in a desperate need of finding a meaning and purpose and fulfilment in life. This amounts to a deep spiritual and intellectual exploration of the nature of truth hidden in a milieu of cultural conditioning and outworn traditional values. The writer examines the profound social change, the music and the influence of recreational drugs in the 1960s. He willingly experiences many aspects of the psychedelic and mystical elements encountered in India and elsewhere ‘bathing’ in many aspects of the metaphysical influences becoming popular in the West at that time. To sum up: every ‘chapter’ of his life appears to have been a crucible of trial and error, which like a river endures many obstacles and changes until finally it reaches the sea.
Charles Christie was born in Kenya, East Africa in 1953, where he lived on a coffee farm at Mitubiri, near Thika. His family left Kenya in 1963 and moved to the Isle of Man. He was educated at Akeley Wood School in Buckinghamshire, UK and King William’s College at Castletown on the Isle of Man. He migrated to Australia with his brother Jimmie in 1968. He has served in The Royal Australian Navy, worked as a builder’s labourer in Adelaide, a vehicle rustproofer on the Isle of Man, a Teacher’s Aide at Renmark, South Australia, a cellar-hand in a wine shop at Mayfair and a HiFi salesman in Adelaide. He has a Bachelor of Health Science from the University if Adelaide and a Bachelor of Medicine and a Bachelor of Surgery from the Flinders University of South Australia, He has been a medical practitioner since 1998. Poetry, Music and Photography had been his enduring interests. He is currently living in Adelaide, South Australia, He is married and has two children.
In 2011 he published a book of poetry called Like Music by X Libris.
